I don't doubt Uncle was or is #1 on the EPA's hit list. He is an unbelievably large and soft target. It's sort of like the Girl Scout with the biggest family being able to sell the most cookies.

Generally, the records are easy to find and reliable, outraged plaintiffs stand in line to use environmental laws to advance agendas having nothing to do with the environment and the defendant is institutionally constrained from fighting back.

Add the fact that scare tactics easily mobilize pressure from an often clueless public.

The military has been an active and often enlightened caretaker of the large bits of real estate it controls. We could talk specific cases at length if you'd like. Or we could defer the topic until it's on the front burner here.

None of the above intended to imply the military's impact on the environment has always been benign or beneficial.
