I think the health care system (in which the private sector and government both participate in the market to serve an essential human need) provides a richer ground for analogy than the military (in which the government defends us and asserts what it deems to be the nation's interests in the world). Most individuals don't wake up one day and say to themselves, "I need a military today". But they often wake up and say "I need to get a school for myself/my kids" or "I don't feel well, I need a doctor." And with both health and education, there are private and public alternatives in our marketplace.

I'll leave it at that since you have indicated you don't wish to discuss it further.
