The other point I would make is that there is one part of the U.S. education system which is sought out by students the world over, and that is our university and graduate school system.

That system is essentially run on a modified voucher system based on financial ability to pay. Those from wealthy families will be charged up to 30K or even more per year, but those from poor backgrounds will be granted and loaned money by the government (and the schools) to attend the school of their choice. Public or private. Religious or secular. Why can my kid use a Pell grant (those were renamed something else, I can't remember what right now) at Georgetown (a Catholic Jesuit school) and not have a voucher to go to the local Catholic high school instead of the public inner city Gang Academy? I don't understand that at all.
