"there will be a shortage coming."

It is a long way off tho.

When next do you expect a level of demand that will equal the coincidental factors of:

1) Year 2000 upgrades
2) Fear of missing the "internet revolution"
3) Euro currency introduction
4) Massive liquidity injection for investment due to bogus fears of y2k failures

Everything we have now is gonna have to be obsoleted before capacity can't keep up with demand.

The P600 with 512MB RAM from Jan 2000 is great for today's PC users.

Since then however, RAM price has come down and Processor speeds are well over 2GHz. Die sizes are lower and wafers have more than twice the surface area.

The amount of computing power that can come out of fabs that are built today is much much greater than demand.

We have another 3 yrs at least of poor economic growth while demand catches up. More likely 5 yrs and possibly 7yrs.

Have fun! Did you all hedge your long SUNW with shorts in LLTC, MXIM, ALTR & XLNX as I advised a few weeks back before the double digit percentage declines in those stocks?

I wonder whether enough of that capacity is where it needs to be, though (i.e. other than at WorldCom).
