Re: The 70s.

The 70s was mostly a sideways market. It started in a severe downturn, recovered, then dropped off again in 73-74, recovered somewhat and then stayed pretty flat through the decade. Real rates of return were negative because inflation was high.

However the decline of 73-74 was not as long and protracted as our current one.
