Which document takes priority? My backwards head and heart say that separation of church and state takes priority." This was a response to your statement in 410 about the D of I and a Creator. I never said that the D of I had anything to do with separation of church and state. I said that there is a conflict between the D of I and the concept of separation of church and state. Sorry if there was some confusion on this matter. I did ask which document takes priority. This means that more than one document is involved, in this case there are 2 documents, the D of I and the first amendment of the Constitution. My apologies for not spelling this out. This separation is put forth in the following: Constitutional Amendment 1: from The Bill of Rights Amendment I Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. I would appreciate an accept from you that there is a problem(conflict) between the first amendment and the D of I in that the D of I invokes a "Creator" and a "God" while the first amendment prohibits laws which prevent the free exercise of religion. Religion means any belief, mono, polytheism, atheism, agnosticism, and any other variant. The conflict is that the D of I is used as a reason to create a law which violates the first amendment. Then, perhaps, we can reach a common consensus as to the importance of the D of I and the first amendment.
