What elements are you unchecking? You may be deleting some programs that XP insists on to keep operating.

It is not a good idea to perform brain surgery on your OS unless you know what you are doing. Do your research first. I know how frustrating it can be to see allot of crap on the system tray due to recently installed software.

Windows XP provides the user unprecedented control through configuration options. I do not think this was a good idea. A user can get themselves into trouble more easily. Perhaps the Home version should be limited in its configuration, and the Pro version should provide all the configuration options.
