On the other hand if the majority imposes its religious ideas (no matter how trivial these ideas may be) on a minority by law then that law is in violation of the first amendment.

In the US we have 6 major national holidays. 4 of them are New years day, Memorial day, 4th of July, and Labor day. These have little or no religious affiliation and Thanksgiving has a very slight implication of religious overtones.

However, Christmas is one of the 6 major national holidays. Would you say that this is a violation of the 1st amendment?

Just testing the waters, not trying cause trouble.

Noel, When things happen up close, and personal, there is no documentation. Remember, there was not always an internet on which every little tidbit of minutia was made public.

Just tell the truth, you have a burr under your saddle because you do not believe in any deity, so you make a mountain out of a mole hill.

John Ashcroft is a bit too much fundamentalist for me, but he has not attempted to force this opinion on any other citizen, so there is nothing unacceptable about him, nor the office he holds.

Wiccan is a new word for black witchcraft practiced by some people in the US. They knew that witchcraft causes a bitter taste in most peoples' mouth, so they tried to hide their beliefs behind a new, made up, name. I don't like to use the name, but thought you might resent my use of "witchcraft".
