Wayne,

My understanding is that it's safe if you use your own computer because everything that's sent out is already encoded. If you use the internet cafe's computer then you can't be sure if keyboard sniffing software is running in the background.

While traveling in January and looking for an internet connection I found a neat little packet from Sprint sitting on the counter of a convenience store.

For $9.95 I received a CD that allows me to connect from any phone to the internet for up to 480 minutes in over 400 of the largest metro areas and 120 minutes in "rural" areas.

It was easy to set up and is renewable. (Takes about 5 minutes to punch password into computer and after that it operates just like your regular service). Very, very handy for only a couple of pennies per minute.
