If you quote "The Congress shall have Power To . . . provide for the . . . general Welfare of the United States " there is absolutely nothing, I repeat NOTHING that the Congress cannot do. They can claim, as they have, that many of our unconstitutional laws are for the "general welfare". The main purpose of the Constitution is to restrict the powers of the government.

Amendment X
The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

That is not what it means and you know it. You and others like you deliberately misstate the context of Article 1 Section 8. That has to do with the defense of our country. Not providing a hammock for lazy bastards to sleep in.

The preamble with "promote the general welfare" superceeds section 8.
