I think the Oct '98 closing low was right here at 1357.

It does look like Nasdaq COMPX has failed its retest of the Sept lows. Indeed the QQQ went through the Sept lows some time ago. Technically speaking, this implies another big downcycle for tech, ending in despair and capitulation.

SPX is a little below the Sept lows (about 2%). If it bounces from here then it would be considered a successful retest, however if it continues down and closes below 935 then I would say that it has failed the test of the lows. TA is definitely not an exact science so I'd give the SPX a 3% margin before I give up on it. If it fails it would bring into play some very bearish looking chart patterns so the low might be a long ways down.
