Well, as I said, it seemed obvious to me, but you would not believe the array of arguments trotted out against that point of view. There was the "those companies are not important" argument. There was the "the utilities have switched to fuel oil" argument. There was the "the fertilizer plants using natural gas have shut down" argument. There was the "plastic factories using gas as a feedstock have shut down" argument.

Very few people at that time were willing to admit that a great deal of marginal production was coming on line, and fast, because it did not show up in surveys like that Raymond James Report.

Fortunatey I sold all my natural gas royalty trusts when I could see that production among smaller companies was ramping up, taking short term profits on what I had intended as long term holdings. My trading account increased as a result by about 50% in six months but my taxes for 2001 were horrific.
