This is not about partisan attacks.

If you read Hedrick Smiths book, "The Power Game" he assesses several of the recent presidents up to the time the book was written. Smith won two Pulitzer prizes--he is well-respected on both sides of the aisle. He notes that Jimmy Carter was an absolutely brilliant man. Carter was so bogged down in details that he was an ineffective president.

Bill Clinton is brilliant. He is also a sex addict who seems to have no particular motivation to tell the truth.

If you sincerely believe that George W is not a bumbling idiot, let me suggest that you read some of the columns on Slate, or buy the book about Bushisms. In both cases, they are direct quotes from Dubya.

George W. Bush may still end up being a good president. He's just a placeholder for president, and his team may do well. The Republicans did put up a bumbling idiot for president in George W. So what? The alternative was Gore, who had his own set of peculiar problems.

My point is that none of these presidents is close to being respectable across all of the metrics we use to judge leaders. When somebody says that Bush is not an idiot, that speaks volumes to me about how well-read and how objective that somebody happens to be.

Best regards,
Tom

>>>Parties don't put bumbling idiots up for President.<<<

Does Warren Harding qualify? His party advisors told him to stay home, don't give any speeches, and keep out of sight till the election was won.

After he was sworn in he fullfilled the bumbling idiot part.

It was he that said..."A lot of people out of work causes unemployment"
