TWNN,

I mostly agree with your option "strategy". It's the way I've done it for years. I try to do my best TA on the underlying and trust the option to follow along. I am currently trading options on a list of about 15-16 big cap stocks. I want plenty of volatility as that's what makes the options move. I also plan (usually) to only stick around for a day or two. I don't try to pick tops and bottoms. I've tried, believe me, but I can't do it. I take the fat middle out of most trades when I win. I try to take the skinniest loss when I lose. FWIW.
