Advanced Micro Says 2nd-Qtr Sales Will Lag Forecasts (Update2)

Sunnyvale, California, July 3 (Bloomberg) -- Advanced Micro Devices Inc., Intel Corp.'s biggest rival in making personal- computer processors, cut its sales forecast for the second time in two weeks.

The chipmaker expects second-quarter revenue to be about $600 million, rather than the $620 million to $700 million predicted on June 18, the company said in a statement on Business Wire. In April, Chairman Jerry Sanders forecast sales of $820 million to $900 million.

``It's a bad signal for PC sales,'' said Ingo Queiser, an analyst at Bank Julius Baer. The company also sold some products at discounts of as much as 50 percent, he added.

Bigger rival Intel and Advanced Micro lowered sales forecasts last month, citing a slowdown in demand, especially in Europe. Hewlett-Packard Co., the world's largest PC maker, has said it expects sales to drop as much as 7 percent in the quarter ending this month.

Advanced Micro shares, which have lost 45 percent of their value this year, fell as much as 10 percent in German trading to 8 euros and recently changed hands at 8.20 euros ($8.02). That compares with a closing price in the U.S. yesterday of $8.80.

The Semiconductor Industry Association in June said a recovery may not take
