A big concern about corporate competitors is that they would cherry-pick the best and easiest students, saddling the public schools with a disproportionate number of the harder-to-educate students.

It can be argued that teaching the best and the brightest costs less than teaching the average and below. That adds up to maximized profits for those permitted to cherry-pick and insufficient funding for those with the real challenges.
