At age 26, Patrick should be investing in equity funds. He should be hoping that the markets will go down significantly in the next decade so that he can buy more assets at bargain prices. Obviously, the markets will have to eventually go up for this strategy to work -- but if he doesn't believe that markets will ever again go up, he should not be investing.
