Al-Qaeda attacked NYC because they are fanatics who hate the USA for being in Saudi Arabia and the Saudi power elite who are so corrupt. The fanatics who are killing people in the Middle East are doing so because they believe that they have no alternative. Providing an alternative is the only way to stop the fanaticism. In the case of Al-Qaeda the alternatives(leaving Saudi Arabia and finding a government that is not corrupt) are not acceptable. In the case of Israeli and Palestinian fanatics a change in leadership in Israel and Palestine might just help.
