dabum, the reason the market won't go straight down or up is that then the game would be over too soon because of extreme under- or overvaluation.

Nice comments Dabum.

The market bear gods need to engineer some rallies now and then to suck new money back into the game.

I can just hear CNBC soundbites in the next few weeks:

"Yes tech demand is still in the doldrums, but the selloff has gone way too far. You'd think that tech demand is dead and technology is retreating back to the Victorian age"

" (Insert tech company here) today announced earnings slightly above consensus estimates. Sees Q3 as the bottom and believes that demand will approach previous levels in 2003". Of course consensus estimates have been engineered down.

Joe Blow economist announces that "most accounting problems are behind us. Corporate boards these days, fearing jail terms, don't even want a hint of impropriety from their CFO's"

Yes, CNBC will lead the parade during the bear rally.
