yes Joe
I agree with that
foisting math and science, English and history should be what it is all about
and for the most part it is

The major problems in any school right now are the behavior problems, the children who do not speak or read in English and or their native language, (and who are in the upper grades), and children with learning disabilities (imo).

Parents are falling down on the job , imo. I think the teachers are actually better now than when I was in school, and so are the materials, but the students and their parents are not of the same quality. Why? Because of both parents working, and day care, and the legal mandate to educate everyone in regular education if possible. Many of the children I see are absolutely starved for one on one adult interaction. They can't wait to be given assessment tests, because that means our time together will be one on one. This is not an educational problem, except insofar as we (in education) must pick up the slack.

Parents who can
afford to, send their children to private schools,

Including almost all the people who pass the federal laws and many of those who pass the state laws which govern our schools.

One excellent way to improve our schools would be to require every elected official to send their children to public schools only.
