From LA Times: 2 Dead in Shooting at LAX Terminal From Associated Press, Two people were killed and several were wounded today in a shooting at Los Angeles International Airport, Los Angeles police said. The shooting occurred at an El Al Airlines ticket counter. One of the two people killed was the gunman, said Alex Baez, a police spokesman. Byron Tucker, a spokesman for Gov. Gray Davis, confirmed that an El Al Airlines security guard fatally shot the gunman. The gunman was killed after approaching another person at the counter and opening fire, police said. The shooting occurred at Tom Bradley International Terminal at 11:32 a.m. and closed off much of the airport. Four other injured people were reportedly transferred to local hospitals. FBI agents were at the scene but there was no indication of the shooter's identity or nationality. Josef Bootski had just checked their bags and said he was about 20 feet away from the gunman, who he described as a white man with a ponytail who was a little overweight. "He just kept yelling. 'Artie took my job, Artie took my job.' I had no idea what he was talking about. And he just started shooting everybody and then he just started telling bad jokes," Bootski said. Thad Weimlein was standing at the Korean Airlines counter, in the same ticketing area as El Al. He said eight to 10 shots were fired. "People were running and screaming, hitting the floor," he said. He saw plainclothes policemen pulling out their guns and badges at the same time. "There were a lot of shots fired, a flurry. Then there was silence. Then there were some more shots," he said. "A lot of people were hoping it was fireworks, a prank." The Los Angeles Police Department went on tactical alert after the shooting. Davis asked the California Highway Patrol to form a perimeter around the site. Davis was in Santa Monica for a clean-up event at the beach. He was being briefed by his security adviser and the head of the CHP, Tucker said. El Al, the national airline of Israel, is known as one of the most security-conscious airlines in the world. Fire officials deployed a team to check for hazardous materials. latimes.com
