Actually if the news is bad and the market ignores it would be a good sign. Why are you assuming news worse than the expectations? Werent last weeks employment numbers a bit better than expected? mike

I think that economic events reported by the media are relatively well known by the time they hit the wire. Specific numbers like unemployment, GDP and even inflation numbers can act as triggers, but they do not change major trends. I think that a mild rally here is simply a relief of the oversold conditions in the market, and bad news on employment can be interpreted by the market as positive or as negative, as the market's mood is.
