But first, to answer your questions. Re: what country are writing from? U.S.A. 2) how did our cia managed to convince kgb of cold war era that al qaeda was real? By arming its predecessor..... al Qaeda, as such, did not exist during the Cold War era. At that time, as you are well aware the U.S. CIA and other agencies were supporting mujahideen "freedom fighters" in their guerilla war against the Soviets in Afghanistan. Recruiting "theocratic fascists" from throughout the Moslem world, the CIA created the nucleus of what would become "the Base", aka al Qaeda by the mid-1990's. With no Soviet enemy to face in Afghanistan, these Moslem warriors quickly spread to other regional conflicts including Bosnia, Kosovo, Chechnya, Somalia, Sudan and others. They were organized and armed by the CIA. Never forget that. If you are not familiar with the writing or Milt Beardon, you should take the time to acquaint yourself with his work. He was the CIA station chief in Pakistan during the late 1980's. He's written in detail about the CIA involvement back then. Challenges from Vietnam and the Balkans to the Middle East and September 11 have revealed the limits of American supremacy. Will the United States learn to fade quietly, or will U.S. conservatives resist and thereby transform a gradual decline into a rapid and dangerous fall? By Immanuel Wallerstein The United States in decline? Few people today would believe this assertion. The only ones who do are the U.S. hawks, who argue vociferously for policies to reverse the decline. This belief that the end of U.S. hegemony has already begun does not follow from the vulnerability that became apparent to all on September 11, 2001. In fact, the United States has been fading as a global power since the 1970s, and the U.S. response to the terrorist attacks has merely accelerated this decline. <Continues online..........> Here is a link to a webcast of Wallerstein's interview on C-SPAN last Tuesday: There are two ways to get to the Real Audio video webcast: 1) Cut & Paste: c-span.org 2) Go to cspan.org Type in "Wallerstein" in the "search video archives" dialogue box in the lower left hand corner of the main page.
