I was hoping that the creditors would want to avoid a bk at all costs and renegotiate... but it looks like they see bk as something in their favor.

Such a swap would likely be part of a prearranged, or "prepackaged" bankruptcy filing, experts said.

WorldCom's shareholders would likely end up with nothing in a bankruptcy filing because WorldCom's outstanding debt is greater than the company's value, experts said. Creditors must be paid in full before shareholders receive anything in a bankruptcy.
