I don't know.

I think it has something to do, though, with the insulation most of us have today from the realities that most of the world understands full well. Life in the US is so comfortable, so easy, that we think this is normal. It isn't. This is a unique -- well, almost unique -- blip in human history. The only other time there was such a blip was in the Roman Empire of the first and second centuries, when the average Roman lived a life of ease and comfort, sustained by slavery and armies mostly composed of non-citizens. Most adults, and therefore most children, don't understand in a viseral sense that freedom throughout history has come at the cost of a lot of blood of a lot of very good men and women. Many can mouth the right words, but few understand the reality.

BTW, was your husband in the mid-Atlantic states, particularly Philadelphia down to Maryland and DC, in the early to mid 60s? If so, it's possible that he arrested me. What a coincidence that would be!
