AMD could use a good partnership with a strong OEM if they are to break out of their bottom-feeder reputation. As it is, they continue to be used as a bargaining chip for OEMs to get sweeter deals out of Intel. This is a direct result of AMD using price as their primary weapon of competition, and it's hardly a sustainable business model. Tenchusatsu, I disagree. I think its AMD's long history of poor performance that dogs them now. Just as it took years to develop that rep, it will take years to overcome it. Prudential is claiming that DELL has admitted to looking at the Opteron chip. If that is in fact true, the day may come when DELL orders chips from both INTC and AMD. And if that day indeed happens, INTC's GM will drop further and will be more in parity with AMD's. As long as AMD was a poor second, INTC had it made. However, that has been changing.........those changes could be seen as early as when INTC was having trouble bringing the P4 to market and lost share to AMD. The recession has exacerbated those changes and for the first time, AMD has hurt INTC's money making capabilities. At the same time, it afforded AMD the opportunity to amass its own cash pot to help it get through the lean times. The PC recession will only maim INTC but will make AMD bleed once again but not in the way of years past. At the end of it, AMD will still be strong and will only get stronger. The Athlon's architecture is helping to make that happen. ted Enter symbols or keywords for search: QuotesStock TalkChartsNewsPeople Symbol Lookup Subject Titles Only Full Text Go to Top Terms of Use
