Actually, given the cadence of the pledge, that would be awkward.

Easier for those who object to the presence of the words to silently omit them.

BTW, suppose some school were to omit the words from the official version of the pledge. But suppose some students on their own initiative inserted them not slinelty but orally, at the same voice level as they were saying the pledge. Do you believe that those students should be disciplined for that?
