Just as I feel children should be free to pray all they want in school (individually, on
their own hook)- EXCEPT where they interfere with the instructional time of other
students, or compromise their own instructional time

By individually, do you also include non-school-sanctioned-or-organized prayer among activities you would accept/approve of? For example, would it be acceptable to you if a group of students during recess went to a corner of the playground and held a prayer session? How about if during football games a group of students sat together and while other students were cheering traditional cheers, they were cheering sacred cheers?

How about MLK holding a prayer session on public property (the Mall) under government sanction (a parade permit)? Okay??
