that is exactly what I meant. Intel may easily win supercomputer designs because of custom software. The question is how competitive Itanium 2 outside of supercomputers where software support is a larger issue.
Even in supercomputers it might be a tough sale. Even if that article is mistaken and it is not a value of the deal but the price paid that would mean that in 1.4k cluster configuration the price per processing unit is $20K.
You may consider i2 to be better than hammer (matter of opinion) but is it better than 10-20 hammers?
