Goldsnow, I agree. But the region also includes Israel. The same goes for them also since they tend to elect former Generals and sideline peace lovers such as Shimon Peres.

I think the US should abandon the Middle East altogether and let the warring parties settle it amongst themselves. Earlier they had a strategic interest there. Now, as you say, because of the diminished strategic interest due to Russian oil, they need to concentrate on development of prosperity (spock market, jobs, raise the standard of living etc.) within the shores of the US, like Clinton did.
