Itanic set sail about a year ago as a production processor, with you all trumpeting the availability of systems from Dell, IBM, HP, etc. Of course, actually getting one operating, at a client's facilities, was quite a bit more troublesome than anyone was expecting. Even after Intel spent billions to have Alpha and PA-Risc forced out of the market, nobody wants Itanic, a processor that Intel has been pouring money into for about 8 years. Check out the dates of the press releases, then consider: How may Itaniums has Intel sold during the first year the chip was shipping (not given away or sampled, but convinced someone to pay for) 5 million Itaniums? 500,000? 250,000? 100,000? 25,000? Fewer than 25,000 in 4 full quarters?
