I think you are nearly alone.

Re: " am the one who has posted tons of references which show that traditional conservatives used to be against free trade, and only in recent decades have republicans perverted conservatism by adopting a free trade stance."

Yeah, and I read the histories posted and saw that even the guy who many consider the founder of the modern British conservative party was a free-trader(he convinced a bunch of anti-individual rights "conservatives" of the time to vote for repeal of the corn laws- these same "conservatives" had long supported the status quo government and land-owners, seeking to deny voting rights, etc.). One doesn't have to read far to see that conservatives have more often than not been free-traders for a hell of a lot longer than you think.

I think you are nearly alone in this.

As I say, once this country became a REPUBLIC(look it up), conservatives and liberals soon switched labels. Prior, those who WANTED our constitution were called liberals. For about the last 200 years, those who want to preserve it strictly(in economic terms in particular), are called conservatives(and again, a TON of them have been free-traders all along the way). If you continue to believe otherwise, it must be a result of a refusal to look.

I really don't think you like our Constitution, or a country that was designed to uphold individual rights.
