Edit: Nobody read this except kholt on pain of dying of boredom.

That's just the beauty of the pillow. It's perfect for side sleepers like me. You just have to get the right size. They come in sizes, which represent different heights rather than widths or depths. I use the extra large, which is about five inches tall, I think. It's like a shelf. You run your shoulder up against the front side of it and lie your head on the shelf--the blissfully soft yet solid shelf--leaving your neck and spine nicely aligned.

When I lie on my back, the pillow is just fine. It's higher than I would buy if I were a back sleeper, but you sink in and it's not a problem, not for short periods of time. When I'm on my computer, I put a regular pillow under my TempurPedic to get it even higher so I can read and type while lying down.

If you have one of their pillows in a shorter size, you can try lying it on top of a regular pillow to get it higher so you can get a sense of what a properly sized one might feel like. When I bought my bed, the store gave me a loaner pillow to try for a month to make sure I had the right size. The larger sized pillows are more expensive. Mine was $120, I think. Worth every penny. If I had to evacuate my home, the first thing I would grab would be my pillow. Well, my laptop and my pillow.
