The poll numbers Watson is pre-occupied with are more a reflection of the success of Bush's spin machine than on his integrity or personal ethics, or even on a cold analysis of the facts. In that respect, he traps himself in the contradiction created by the Bush administrations' initial resolve not to be poll-driven.....and that other pesky contradiction-Bush's newly adopted "populist" outrage at business fraud when he himself profited at Harkin in exactly the same manner as Enron executives did.

The so-called "liberal" media have so far given Bush a pass on his past business dealings, even though the money involved was much more than the questionable amounts involved in Whitewater, and a small fraction of the ultimate cost of the Whitewater investigation.

A larger question which has far greater consequence to us than how many idiots care more about Bush's personality than his actual policies is that the world is now regarding the American form of market capitalism as a rigged game.
