why...offer debt

1. Everybody and their uncle offered debt to Argentina. Assuming competence on the part of lenders is a mistake.

2. By doing debt rather than taking stock it could be argued Buffet is betting the company will survive but the stock won't. In reorg stock becomes basically worthless: debt does not (necessarily, anyway).

3. $100M to Buffet is like a hocked loogie to you and me. It's peanuts, nothing.

I do not know enough of the details to play this either way, I'm just making an observation.
