It is normal to have fires from lightening strikes or careless campers. The forest service usually contains them to a small acreage. The fires this summer have been by far the most destructive on record. The worst ones were arson caused. Whole towns have been wiped out. The problem is exacerbated by the back to the land (back to the forest) movement started thirty years ago. We can telecommute from anywhere and interstates go near enough to even remote regions to drive to the city within an hour or so.
