J_F_Shepard, regardless of what I believe, the fact is that you are offended and feel threatened by words that you are not forced to recite.

All this talk about "separation of church and state" and the existence of God (or the lack thereof) is moot. Those words do not violate the 1st amendment, nor do they force anyone to believe in God.

If you want to believe that religion is the opium of the people, go right ahead. But if you want to remove the words "under God" from the Pledge, do it through legislation. Don't tell me that it's unconstitutional to offend someone, and don't tell me that you are being forced to recite those words.
