Dave re: >> the "others" in this category may refuse to adopt the I2 since they will, eventually, become over-glorified box makers. <<

Not exactly, they are all looking at Apple and Sperry Rand and Univac and even IBM and have figured out that the value added is the service not the proprietary secret stuff. The only holdout is Sun, but they will be assimilated into the Borg once XP64 and II-S 64 starts to get distributed.

Dave re:>I am disapppointed that Dell has not adopted the I2. Is this an admission of weakness? Or, has Dell performed <

Strangely enough, this IS the Dell model, which Dell has chosen not to adopt (sic!) at this time.

If you have read my earlier posts, we have speculated that the real problem is Dell's inability to supply the technical assistance because of their alliance with IBM, but I am as unsure of the reason as you are. Dell has said it is demand, or rather volume!!! but "volume" will be far less important to I2 in the next two or so years, and we speculated that the real revenue will be for service, which Dell does not have. It is specially interesting to note that Dell will continue to sell the Merced server.

What is THAT about?
