Saudia Arabia Used To Be A Strong Ally Of The US

After 9/11 there was a lot of publicity about a rift between Saudia Arabia and the US.

Initially I thought this was more show than reality, to provide the Saudi's with some cover from the more militant states in the Middle East. It was my understanding that Saudia Arabia had strong business partnerships with the US and that the US military presence is Saudia Arabia, if it is not currently, was not long ago the greatest on any it had in the region, and played an important role in Saudia defense.

Of late it appears that this rift may in fact be more substantive.

Such a change would have very significant implications for the politics of that region and would seem to make US intervention, political or military, much more difficult.

What are you thoughts on the current US - Saudia Arabia relationship
