If I remember correctly, the old MFS telecom network, which is now a part of Worldcom, was HQ'd in Omaha. Jim Crowe used to work for MFS. I think that Jim's / MFS's offices were in the same office suite as Buffet's, something like they shared a door or MFS had a few offices in a subset of Buffet's. That's where that relationship started. Remains to be seen if that debt purchase was a good investment, Level 3 still hasn't made any cash but I think they still had a few years to burn through, I haven't checked in a while. An investment in LVLT is still speculation, in the best case.
