<<did they get overlevered on WCOM debt? >>

no, not really. sort of like Buffett and Level 3, it was big absolute $ but small relative to what they manage.

maybe they're in the CDO market (which i would doubt, since those guys are good credit analysts and you can't do credit analysis on blind pools) so the WCOM fall-out is hurting them there.

Bill Gross has gotten a little full of himself recently (while his monthly notes are still the most informative thing i read, all the little personal anecdotes are a little much). Everybody gets their turn in the barrel (even Buffett did for a couple of years there); maybe it's his turn. After all, pride commeth before the fall. (something i should remind MYself of occassionally)

Cheers

They can't lever if they're a mutual fund. Even closed end funds can only lever a little bit. And they can't get in trouble because it's not their money they are investing. They can have bad performance, which they've had.

I read PIMCO as warning that ultimately the economic pie will be smaller as a result of creative destruction being taken to excess. Warren Buffet has the cash to step in and provide financing where the banks will no longer tread.

I have cash too, but not enough to buy an Australian power plant from ILA.
