John, Continued consolidation. Dell will be joined by someone who plays the same game of lean assemble and direct to market.
Gateway is too tied to it's chain of distributors and thus must share the maegin with them. dell keeps all the margin.
I wonder why others find this so hard to see and copy.
HP and CPQ could create a direct brand and fight Dell and leave their other brands as they are to sell to the F500 people.
Linux gets better every year and this is the year it is ready for some initial consumer sales, but it is still a bit harder for the average joe 6pak to mess with or Girl friday, so it will grow slowly. Still needs more smoothing, but with MSFT cranking up the OS price, MSFT is asking for Linus to eat their lunch.
networks with a few office applications are already going over to linux in many countries is anger over the cost of Office etc per seat.
remember when OEM OS was $10, then $25??

In the end Dell will buy AMD and say goodbye to Intel.

It may just happen.
