Microsemi Introduces New Ultra Low Voltage Schottky Diodes For Battery Charging and Power Supply Applications
IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 10, 2002--
-- Forward Voltage Drop is Only 0.2 Volts at Rated Current -- Minimizes Power Loss, Improves Battery Efficiency -- Patented Powermite® Package Cuts Size, Improves Thermal
Capabilities
Microsemi Corp. (Nasdaq:MSCC - News), a leading manufacturer of discrete semiconductors and power management integrated circuits, has announced a new ultra low forward voltage Schottky diode in its patented Powermite® surface mount package for use in battery charging and power supply applications.
Designated the UPS115U(TM), the rectifier has been optimized to enhance its forward voltage drop to 0.2 volts at 100(degrees)C, significantly improving loss characteristics of the device compared with conventional Schottky diodes.
The UPS115U is an ideal solution for OR'ing diode applications that include battery chargers for portable electronic devices, redundant/backup or "hot swappable" power sources and fault protection circuits.
"This device represents a breakthrough for designers seeking a solution to increase battery efficiency or to minimize power loss in their applications," said Sven Nelson, vice president and general manager of Microsemi's Broomfield, Colo., operation.
"By choosing the Powermite-packaged version of this Schottky, designers now have a highly efficient, low loss rectifier in an ultra small, low profile and low thermal resistance package, to enable design of smaller more energy-efficient products," he said.
Powermite surface mount packages are a third the size of comparably rated products and provide superior low thermal resistance from their patented wrap-around metal base. The UPS115U Schottky is less than 1mm high.
For designs where size and thermal specifications are less important, this Microsemi die also is available in a standard SMB package, designated the LSM115J(TM) in this version. Both parts are available for immediate sampling and delivery. Prices for the UPS115U start at $.284 in 1,000-piece quantities and at $.259 for the LSM115J in like quantities.
