In 1954, 3 Isralie soldiers were captured in Syria territory for spying. In response, Moshe Dayan ordered the IAF (Israelie air force) to intercept a Syrian civilian flight and brought it to Israel. The passengers were held as hostages to exchange for the release of the three Israelie soldiers. The U.S state department told prime minister Moshe Sharette this was unprecidented in the region. Sharette wrote in his diary that he thought the U.S was correct."
