Warp, "BTW, what is this Death Ride in the Sierras? Is this for street or mountain bikers?" The ride is on paved roads, although I see lots of mtn bikes. 126 miles, 15,000+ elevation gain over 5 passes. Both sides of Monitor Pass, both sides of Ebbets Pass, and Carson Pass centered on Markleeville, south of Lake Tahoe. It's a beautiful, relatively untouched part of Calif. that's changed very little since I came west over 30 years ago. Grover Hot Springs, the Cutthroat Saloon (ceiling covered in bras. Gal gets a t-shirt if she donates her bra on the spot.), East Carson River, Hope Valley, and expansive vistas ala Montana and Wyoming are some of the local attractions. Spectacular fall colors, too, as well as great winter snow shoeing, x-country skiing. Jim PS Looks like you should get a nice payoff on your bets manana.
