Did you ever think Sony would be a seller of inferior VHS machines

you don't know much about anything professional do you? is it your proximity to redmond?

sony still makes a ton of money in the betacam market, (renamed from betamax), because professionals only want the best, and the entire TV and Video industry uses the best they can get..... it is a smaller niche market, but the margins are great, so it just keeps on keeping on making money with only about 5% market share....... now it finally is being replaced by Digital equipment, because now that is the best professionals can get..... and the best digital equipment will make up about 5% of the market because of professionals that want only the best and fastest... like firewire..... HELLO? anybody awake?

any of this sound familiar with the desktop industry?

>>Sony likes to profit and will go where the overall market takes it.<<

Don -

Not always. I notice that they still haven't abandoned the Memory Stick, even though Compact Flash, Smart Media and Secure Digital are much more popular.

FireWire has quite a bit of market momentum, it seems to me. It's starting to appear on aftermarket motherboards and it's already on most new PCs. Notice, for example, that virtually all Dells, including notebooks, now come with IEEE 1394. So do new Compaqs, even the ones that also have USB 2.0.
