i think i mentioned in a prior post, i'd like to get the OTC derivatives desk at Goldman or JP Morgan to structure a futures contract on the average baseball salary for me. i want to get short.

as i think i also mentioned many months ago, the first sign is already there. Jason Giambi signed for a LOT less than ARod. lower high. yeah, i know that ARod is better than Giambi, is younger and plays a position where it is more difficult to get offensive production, but the fact is that that simple facts like that never stopped the biggest contract every year being bigger than the year before.

salary inflation is soooo over.

as far as Unit goes, i didn't hear his excuse. maybe i'm just showing home-town bias, but Pedro i think was justified in skipping the game; he's broken down at the break each year for the last three years and he's coming off a major arm injury and needs the rest. i think folks would rather see Pedro throw a couple of games against the Yankees in the ALCS than pitch to three over-matched batters in the All-Star game (and I think the same goes for Unit as well; given how many games that guy has won on short rest and how many innings he's logged the last 8-9 years i think we can miss watching him whiff Randy Winn, Robert Fick and Garrett Anderson on 9 pitches).

Cheers
