jpgill, i think we are down to pretty much the hard-core fans already at this point. as much as i hate to admit it, i'll watch again on Opening Day next year even if they cancel the World Series again.

the thing that is going to hurt salaries is the TV rights fees. they are about to go into long-term secular decline. since you can't value media/cable companies on "EBITDA" any more, they are going to actually have to produce actual CASH flow. and the first thing that they are going to do is stop paying a gazillion dollars to buy sports. we've already seen two signs: (i) big write-down at Fox on the NFL and Nascar contracts, signed in the midst of the bubble; and (ii) lower rights fees for the NBA last year.

salary inflation is over. ARod's deal will be the sports equivalent of Nasdaq 5000 -- we might not see a bigger contract for 20 years.
