personal: on bankruptcies and layoffs, question to ALL I have recently witnessed a couple bankruptcies a few layoffs, and threats of many more layoffs a friend tells me of his uncle who lost his business and had to declare BK probably a Ch13, but a BK nonetheless another friend tells of a family member who declared BK in the last couple months, bills overwhelming, laid off job a former Digital colleague has been out of work for over a year another DEC colleague lost his Compaq job, out of work for 7-8 months now a college roommate in an insurance company just was told of voluntary retirement packages being offered, whereby the firm wants to reduce workforce by 20%, not from WTC attack but also asbestos, court settlements in personal injury, etc does anyone else hear of rising layoffs and bankruptcies? I expect the layoffs combined with rising rates will kick out the pillars behind real estate values and then goes the economy into recession I have heard denial recently about real estate being able to withstand higher mortgage rates I dont believe it, any more than other economic analysis it is all horribly shoddy in the press and media and other layoff, BK stories? / jim
