SAUDI ARABIA - SIGNING OF ARMS CONTRACTS POSTPONED (JUL 11/MENL)
Date: 07/11/2002

MIDDLE EAST NEWSLINE -- Saudi Arabia has delayed signing several arms contracts with U.S. defense contractors, reports the Middle East Newsline.

"In principle, the Saudis have agreed to proceed on a range of weapons programs," said a Persian Gulf defense source. "In practice, they are drawing out the conclusion of contracts to such an extent that the assessment is that Riyadh doesn't want to be seen as buying new weapons from the United States."

Gulf defense sources believe that the Riyadh is gradually acquiescing to a growing Saudi boycott of U.S. goods.
